"Bring Everything Always Ready"
The BEAR book is our way of staying organized at home and at school. It is a 3-ring 1" binder that contains valuable information that is always at our fingertips. Its handy sections provide a quick and easy way to organize notes from school, graded papers, homework, newsletters, lunch money, word wall words, reading logs, schedules, and contact information...to name a few things. Please check your child's BEAR Book each day.
The following items make up the BEAR Book:
Zipper Pocket:
This is where students put money for lunch or field trips and "beary important notes" from home.
Weekly Homework/Behavior Chart:
We will send home a behavior report/homework sheet each week. Please look at the sheet each night to see what has been assigned for homework. Extra homework may be added from time to time. Please be sure to initial the chart each night.
Parent/Teacher Communication Page:
This will be for notes between you and me. Please stress to your children that this is ONLY for your teacher and parents to write in. I will be writing notes to you in this section and looking for communications from you there. Check daily and I will do the same for communications from you. I would also ask that you leave any notes that we may write in the notebook so that we can look back and remember any communications we may have had. This will help me remember what we've discussed and when we discussed it. Also, please check the "note" box on the behavior form so I will know to look for your note! I try to check it regularly, but occasionally we get busy and a note goes unread. I initial all notes I read from you and ask that you do the same! That way, we know our notes have been read, even when no response is necessary.
Happy Listener Reading Log:
Write down books read to or with someone. Read 50 books, turn in your reading log to your teacher and you will receive a Westmont Happy Listener t-shirt.
Snack Calendar:
Each month we will send home a snack calendar with your child assigned a day. Please send a snack, drink, cups if needed and napkins for each child in the class. All snacks send in must be "store-bought" please.
Popcorn Words:
Popcorn words are what we call high frequency words. We call them popcorn words because they keep "popping up" in our reading and writing. Later on we will be sending home a yellow Popcorn Words folder to keep up with all of the words that have been learned for the year.

This side of the folder will contain super duper work done by your super smart child. Please remove it nightly and discuss it with your child. After you have "oooed and ahhhed" over it, I'm sure you'll want to show off this work on the refrigerator. ENJOY!!!

This section is where you will find graded papers, important notes from school, study sheets and any other sheets needed for homework. Please refer to the weekly homework sheet for daily homework assignments. Additional homework will be sent home from time to time. All homework should be returned the following school day.
